***GOLDENBIRD***

It’s the Modern World, the End of Times, the Decline of the West, the Revolt of the Masses. It’s the 1920’s. It’s going to be Very Silly.

Me and the Devil Blues

me and the devil blues

Found a manga loosely based on the life and works of cult blues guitarist Robert Johnson: Me and the Devil Blues by Akira Hiramoto. It is interesting to view black people’s life in the 1930’s deep south through the eyes of a Japanese mangaka. In spite of the usual cultural collisions, I think it works quite well. The story is serialized in one of my favourite manga magazines, Afternoon. It goes on my must-buy list when I get to Japan.

    OH MY GOD!

I NEVER knew this existed and I always wanted to create comics showing my history. I am African American but I cannot draw that well to do comics and I am trained as a lawyer!

There is a WONDERFUL cartoon that you may be interested in called Still I Rise: A Cartoon History of African Americans by Roland Owen Laird, Jr. You can buy it from http://www.amazon.com used. I think they stopped printing it.

Thank you for sharing with us!

I plan on going to Japan next year!
