    Tinet:

The last panel on page 18 kicks some immensely serious arse.

Damn, Falco didn’t get to take his shirt off … >:(:)( Argh, why must a man like him be a priest, anyway??

By the way, do you ever consciously think about in which trouser leg the male characters’ ‘johnsons’ go (and why)?

He he, thanks! Don’t worry, his shirt won’t stay on for ever.

Sometimes I wonder if people draw the wrong conclusions. I have no problems showing Mayann nude now and then, but if the character is coded “male” (like Lou and Falco) it’s very difficult and dramatic to show even a glimpse…

[...] do you ever consciously think about in which trouser leg the male characters’ ‘johnsons’ go (and why)?

I try to avoid a decision, so I just sketch a few loose lines. And ‘why’? Oh dear me… Thinking about pants and men just makes me feel claustrophobic!

In case of any doubts, I just quietly show the drawings to my perverted Finnish friends; they have sharp eyes for anatomical correctness (at least for the anatomy of a Fiat truck) and they mercilessly mock any weirdness they can spot.

    Tinert the pervert:

Regarding the Johnsons, it’s as good as always one and the same trouser leg on real men. According to a comic by Joann Sfar about some 17th century gentleman, it depends on which, hrm, hand he, uh, uses. (The comic caused Q. to break out in hysterical laughter, and he didn’t deny that statement … Q’s Johnson was in the right trouser leg. Falco’s seems to be in the left one, at least in these two pages!)

Haha, the spam filter caught your last comment! Too many johnsons!

Which hand he uses… for what??

Sfar is too good to be true. Is there something he hasn’t explained in a comic?

I love Falco even more after this comic. I agree with Tinet; I wish he had taken his shirt off. Also here’s a random question was Falco a priest before he joined the military or after? It seems to me that he probably have to commit a mortal sin or sins in order to his job; does the church give a pass on these things?

    Ainur:

    Hi Alexandra! Yay, interesting questions!

Actually, Falco is not a priest yet. He has been ordained as a deacon, so technically he has taken the vows (poverty, chastity, obedience) already.
A century ago it was still pretty common that boys went to a minor seminary in their early teens.
Basically, Falco started at a minor seminary when he was 13. He left his seminary in 1914 at age 22 because he disagreed with his teachers on many things, most importantly, the war. He became a fiery patriot and joined the army…

In 1917, one of his mentors, the German Father Hieronymus, combed through Austrian POW camps until he found the lost lamb. Poor Falco finally got back home again.

About mortal sins: Yes, he might kill somebody if he has to, but he is supposed to carry his Beretta for self-defence only. A planned murder is a mortal sin - accidentally killing someone in self-defence is not (but it can still be a sin, though). The most important thing is to confess regularly, so that dangerous tendencies can be nipped in the bud. There are some useful quotes and lists of mortal sins here.
