Because Volkov is a mischievous pointy-eared Scythian who likes forbidden things, and Falco is a naughty pointy-nosed Byzantine who likes to keep things forbidden.
I was sooo tempted to leave out the articles in Volkov’s speech, or use “the” instead of “a”, à la russe…
