I have been accused of praised for my devotion to detail. If you only knew how much hard work and googling lies behind every page of Goldenbird… One particularly tricky subject, which has kept me awake many a late night, is the question of clerical fashion in the 1920’s.
Easter vigil - Photoshop overdrive. Falco is at last depicted in his proper surroundings. He is wearing a tunicle [edit: dalmatic] - I think. Googling and searching Flickr (flickring?) for paschal clerical vestments was a challenge. He is probably not supposed to wear it while flower arranging, but I thought it looked pretty…
Fashion-wise, 1920 was a year when the undulating, opulent orientalism of the tens began to face serious competition from the simple and effective lines of modernism and futurism. Paul Poiret’s fashion house was still the uncontested sultan of orientalist art deco in Paris, but a certain Mademoiselle Coco Chanel had already appeared in town…
