I got the original idea to the Goldenbird series in October 2004. Since then, the characters have developed quickly. We start off with some sketches from an old notebook. The date is a lucky guess…

Sketches of Goldie and Falco (he’s changed his surname since then), Jan 31, 2005
It’s a bad habit of mine not to date my drawings. Luckily, I often doodle during the Ph.D. seminars that I attend regularly. The following scans come from my little seminar book, complete with dates. Now you have a chance to see what I’ve been up to when I was supposed to be paying attention!

Early sketch of Mayann, Feb 22. 2005

Sketch of Mayann, Jan 24. 2006 (with bonus puppy faces and jumping goat!)

Sketch of Falco and Father Hieronymus, May 18. 2006 (well, they’re not so terribly secret… And not so terribly gloomy either.)

Sketch of the Madonna and some Byzantine characters, June 8. 2006 (Very significant! Although the dear readers cannot know it yet…)
